Lady Wildcats Open Region Play with Wins Over Mullins, Aynor

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats shut out Mullins 13-0 on Wednesday night and defeated Aynor 15-3 on Friday night in varsity softball action.

The Lady Cats hosted Mullins on Wednesday night and took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first before adding three runs in the second and five in the third. Dillon sealed the win with a run in the bottom of the fourth and had a total of nine hits in the win.

Taylor Price earned the win on the mound, allowing just one hit while striking out seven.

At bat for the Wildcats, Shayna Covington went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and three runs scored; Tara Grimsley went 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBI, and three runs scored; Shaquailla German went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, three RBI, and two runs scored; Erin Bailey went 2-for-2 with a RBI and three runs scored; Rebecca Callahan and Taylor Price each went 1-for-1 with Callahan stealing twice; Auh’Keria Smiling had two stolen bases; and Shar’Asia Samuel stole twice with two runs scored.

On Friday, Dillon traveled to Aynor and defeated the Lady Blue Jackets 15-3.

Shaquailla German earned the win on the mound, pitching four innings for four hits, four walks, three runs, and two earned runs while striking out six. Taylor Price pitched two innings of relief for the Wildcats for one walk and two outs. Aynor’s Elliott took the loss for the Blue Jackets.

At bat, Shayna Covington went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored; Tara Grimsley went 1-for-2 with a double, a RBI, and three runs scored; Shaquailla German went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and three runs scored; Erin Bailey went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run; Rebecca Callahan went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored; Taylor Price went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored; Da’Kerhia Samuel went 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Auh’Keria Smiling went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, three RBI and a run scored; and Shar’ Asia Samuel went 1-for-3.

In the field, Shaquailla German made three puts outs and one assist, and Rebecca Callahan made thre put outs and two assists. Erin Bailey made two assists; Tara Grimsley made two put outs; Da’Kerhia Samuel made one put out and one assist; Taylor Price made one put out; and Shayna Covington made one assist.

With the wins, the Lady Wildcats improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-2A.
