Golden Tornados Shut Out Lady Warriors 15-0, 18-0

The Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors hosted the Lady Golden Tornados of Fairmont High School on Thursday and lost 15-0 before traveling to Fairmont on Friday for a rematch and falling 18-0.

Most of the Warrior lineup is just getting into play following basketball season putting them about three weeks behind most public schools in preparedness.

On the mound for Fairmont, Katelon Floyd was awesome. Floyd had more speed and control than the Warriors have been accustomed to, and outside of Marlboro Academy and Williamsburg Academy, she was likely the best pitcher they will see this season.

Catching for the Golden Tornados is Jill Goodyear who has family ties to Dillon County.

Fairmont Head Coach Cindy Thorndyke looks to have put together the best team in the history of Fairmont High. The Golden Tornados looked very strong at the bat and have an all-star pitcher in Floyd. During warm-ups the fielding looked good, but Floyd kept the Warrior batters off the bases and I did not get to see how they handled hot hit balls. Fairmont High will be a very difficult team to stop in their region.

On the mound for the Warriors in game one, Jamie Carpenter posted four strikeouts, walked two batters, and allowed one batter to base on a hit by pitch, allowing nine hits with 15 runs scored. Floyd posted seven strikeouts with two walked batters and no hits in the three inning game called on the mercy rule.

At bat for the Golden Tornados, Aleah Cameron had two hits with a RBI; Katelon Floyd was 2-for-3, both doubles, with five RBI; Heather Cox was 1-for-2 with a double; Courtney McCormick was 1-for-1; and Mariah Lovin was 1-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Five Fairmont Batters made it to base on errors for two RBI.

In game two, Carpenter posted three strikeouts with one walked batter and two batters to base on a hit by pitch, and allowed 12 hits and 18 runs in two innings. Floyd pitched two innings with six strikeouts and was relieved by Tiffany Hicks in the third inning. Hicks posted three strikeouts.

At bat for Fairmont, Khadijah Thompson was 3-for-3 with two RBI; Katelon Floyd was 2-for-2 with three RBI; Lindsey Britt was 2-for-3, getting to base on an error with three RBI; Christa Thorndyke was 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI also getting to base on an error; and Tiffany Hicks was 1-for-2 with a double and got to base on an error, adding three RBI.

The Warriors will play this Thursday in Dillon against Carolina Academy and travel to Lake City on Friday for a rematch. Game times are set for 4:00 p.m.
