Gators Fall to Vikings in Season Ender

The Lake View Wild Gators wrapped up their regular seasons on Monday night in Latta, falling to the Vikings in girls and boys varsity basketball action.

The Lady Vikings took a 19-2 lead in the girls varsity game and went 18-12 in the second quarter to lead 37-14 at the half. The Vikings outpaced the Lady Gators 21-14 in the second half to seal a 58-28 win.

Latta was led by TaKeria Legette with a game-high 20 points with 10 rebounds and seven assists. Brittany Burgess and Jessica Evans each added 12 points in the win, and Maya Wright earned eight with Mallory Townsend, Iryanna Keene, and Michia Johnson each earning two.

Jasmine Ford led the Lady Gators with a team-high 12 points in the effort, and Olivia McDaniel added eight. Kayla Page scored five, Taylor Bethea added two, and Desiree Strickland earned one point for Lake View.

Lake View’s Lady Gators slipped to 11-8 overall for the season and 5-5 in Region 8-2A. Latta improved to 12-4 and 7-1 with two games left to go before playoffs.

In boys action, Latta took an 18-10 lead in the first quarter and went 21-6 in the second for a 39-16 lead at the half. The Vikings went 23-7 in third and outscored the Gators 16-5 in the fourth to seal a 78-28 win.

Tyrell Sabb led the Vikings with a game-high 22 points and Kartilus McFadden earned 15 in the win. Eric McGirt added 10 points for Latta; RJ McClam scored nine; Diez Mungro added eight; Porter earned seven; Donell Stanley and Isaiah Roberts each earned three; Kel Williamson scored two; and Jordan Sims contributed one point in the win.

Lake View was led by Reco Brown with six points and Bullock with five. Jeremiah Cribb, Jeremy Moody, and Crishon Jordan each added four points, and Xavier Johnson and Duane Nichols each contributed two, with Chavis Nichols scoring one point in the effort.

Latta improved to 7-6 overall and 6-2 in Region 8-A while the Wild Gators wrapped up a winless season.

Region 8-A remained unsettled as of press time, but the Lake View girls and Latta girls and boys teams were all expected to make playoff appearances in the first round on Thursday.
