Latta’s John Kever Love has verbally committed to play baseball for the College of Charleston.

The right-handed pitcher is one of the area’s top prospects. Last season, he helped lead the Vikings to the Class A State Championship series, winning five games with a 1.34 ERA, striking out 73 and driving in 25 runs. He was also named to the Class A All-State.

The 6-foot-7 junior participated in the Diamond Prospects Showcase in Columbia in January where his fastball reached 88 mph.

Love won’t be able to sign his letter of intent until the signing period opens in November.

Love said he chose the school because the program is top notch and he liked the atmosphere at the school and in the city.
