The Latta Vikings earned a 53-6 win over Green Sea Floyds in Green Sea on Friday night in varsity football action.
The Vikings took a strong early lead with four touchdowns in the first quarter. R.J. McClam lead scored first on a 39-yard run with 10:10 on the clock and scored again on a 1-yard run with six minutes left in the quarter. Both kicks were good for a 14-0 lead. Latta’s Jordan Smith then scored on an 88-yard interception return to put the Vikings further ahead, and McClam scored his third touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run with just 17 seconds left in the first quarter. Both kicks were good for a 28-0 Viking lead.
In the second, Latta’s Kel Williamson connected twice with Colby Lee for two touchdowns, the first on an 8-yard pass and the second on an 18-yard pass. The Vikings nailed the first kick but the second was no good.
The Trojans scored their only touchdown of the game in the second quarter, with JaShaquawan McGill scoring on an 80-yard run. The kick failed, leaving the Trojans trailing the Vikings 41-6 at the half.
Neither team could score in the third, and the Vikings capped the win with two touchdowns in the fourth. Latta’s Kartilus McFadden scored on a 4-yard run, and Trey Paige scored on a 27-yard fumble recovery to end the scoring for the Vikings. Both kicks were blocked for the final score of 53-6.
Latta’s R.J. McClam led the Vikings on offense, rushing 24 times for 252 yards. Kartilus McFadden carried eight times for 56 yards, and Kel Williamson carried once for two yards. Williamson connected three times for 51 yards and two touchdowns, with Colby Lee receiving each time.
For Green Sea, JaShaquawan McGill carried 18 times for 158 yards rushing and L. Campbell carried twice for 15 yards. Jacquez Geralds connected one time for three yards through the air, and Shaquille Jordan caught one pass for a two-yard gain.
The Vikings improved to 5-3 with the win with a 2-1 record in Region 8-A. Green Sea falls to 1-2 and 1-6 on the season.
This Friday, Latta will host Hannah-Pamplico at 7:30 p.m. The Raiders are 0-8 on the season.
