Mrs. Paul (Azalee) Glenn, Daniel Glenn, and Reverend Eugene Campbell unveil the plaque.

A plaque in memory of Gordon High School Coach Paul J. Glenn was unveiled at the Dillon Memorial Stadium before the Dillon High football game on Friday, September 6. Family and friends were on hand for the unveiling, as well as Dillon High Athletic Director and Head Coach Jackie Hayes and Dillon District 4 Superintendent Ray Rogers.

The memorial wall includes plaques in memory of Coach Paul F. Chapman and Coach Willie Fred Daniels.

Prior to coaching, Glenn was drafted as a quarterback and defensive back for the New York Giants, but he turned down all professional offers to begin his teaching career.

Coach Glenn worked at Gordon from 1954 to 1966 and taught science, math, social studies, and physical education while serving as athletic director and head coach. His football record was 110-13 and included seven championships. In basketball, he led Gordon to a 156-25 record with eight regional championships and one state championship, and in baseball, he earned a 65-5 record with nine regional championships, 12 conference championships, and two state championships.

After leaving Gordon, he taught at Whittemore High School in Conway, and later in Union, where he became the first African-American elected to the Union City Council in June of 1985.
