Fatal Wreck Occurs On Griffin Road In Latta (Updated)

A fatal wreck has occurred in the Latta area on Griffin Road, a dirt road off of Sunset Drive in Latta. The Herald is told that the call went out at approximately 7 p.m. tonight (Saturday). Law enforcement, rescue workers, and firemen were still on the scene at the time of this report so little information is available. There are reportedly two fatalities and one other person was said to have been in the vehicle, but this is not confirmed by officials. The status of the third person was unknown at the time of this report.
** UPDATE, 9/1: The Herald as learned that the deceased in the wreck have been identified as Charles Frederick Page and Johnathan Gerald Soloman Vereen, both of Latta, known to some as Fred and John Frye.

Two people were killed in a wreck that occurred on Saturday evening. A third person was taken to the hospital.
The fatal wreck occurred in the Latta area on Griffin Road, a dirt road off of Sunset Drive in Latta. The Herald is told that the call went out at approximately  7 p.m. on Saturday. Law enforcement, rescue workers, and firemen were all on the scene.
Coroner Donnie Grimsley identified the deceased as Charles Frederick Page and Johnathan Gerald Soloman Vereen, both of Latta.
According to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, a S.C. Highway Patrolman was attempting to make a traffic stop on the vehicles when it immediately sped off fleeing from the patrolman.
The car eventually wrecked in a wooded area on Griffin Road. Two people died at the scene. The third person was taken to the hospital and has been released.
The case is under investigation by the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.
