Kathleen Nicholson Cottingham, 89, died at her home, Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Funeral services will be held 7:30 P.M., Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Dillon, SC. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Church prior to the service. Burial will be 9:00 A.M., Friday, July 26, in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Cottingham was born December 6, 1923 in Mullins, SC, the daughter of the late John Bradley and Mary Byrd Nicholson. She was the widow of M. Graham Cottingham. She attended the First Baptist Church where she was a member. Mrs. Cottingham was the first woman School Board member in Dillon County and in the State of South Carolina. She owned and operated Suburban Florist, was Vice-President of Cottingham Livestock, and Vice-President Cottingham Funeral Home. She also was a member of the McLeod Hospital Auxilary.
She is survived by her sons, David Cottingham (Lynda) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Jon Cottingham (Janis) of Pawley’s Island, SC, and Mark Cottingham (Melody) of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Kevin Cottingham (Cheryl) of Dillon, SC, Caroline Cottingham of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Farabe Cottingham Algor (Justin) of Dallas, TX, Jessica Cottingham of Charleston, SC; and great-grandchildren, Kathleen Cottingham, Hudson Algor, And Thayer Algor. She was predeceased by her brother, Gene Nicholson and her sister, Margaret Foster.
