Three Local Players Named All-State

Dillon’s Darby Hamer and Lake View’s Morgan Herlong and Kayla Sanderson have received All-State Softball honors from the South Carolina Coaches Association for Women’s Sports.

Darby Hamer was named the Class 2A All-State list. Hamer had five home runs and 30 RBI at bat for the Wildcats this season, made 37 put outs in the field, and had a 9-1 record on the mound with 58 outs and an ERA of 1.36.

The Class 2A All-State honorees also included Shelby Culler from Aynor and Emily Heimberger from Waccamaw. Bishop England had three players who made the list, and state champion Crescent had two players named All-State.

Hamer was also chosen to participate in the North-South Class 3A/2A All-Star game to be held on June 19 and June 20 at USC Aiken. The team will also include Waccamaw’s Melaina Moore and Riley Morris and Aynor’s Shelby Culler. Mike Wood of Strom Thurmond and Eric Hofstetter of Silver Bluff will coach the South team.

In Class A, Morgan Herlong and Kayla Sanderson were each named All-State along with Kaitlin Alexander, Leslie Altman, and Jordan Evans of East Clarendon’s state championship team. Johnsonville’s Alyssa Hinson also made the list.

Sanderson was also chosen for the North-South Class 4A/1A game on June 19 and 20 at USC Aiken. Hannah-Pamplico’s Amber Purvis, Johnsonville’s Alyssa Hinson, and East Clarendon’s D’onna McFadden and Kaitlin Alexander were also named to the South team. Debra Tolar of Stratford and Lisa Ard of East Clarendon will coach for the South.

Herlong was also selected to participate in the Junior Showcase on June 18, also at USC Aiken.
