Playoffs Update: Local Teams Stay Alive in Playoffs

Latta managed a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Lake View on Monday night while the Lady Vikings and both Wildcat teams earned wins to stay alive in the lower state baseball and softball playoffs.

Latta trailed 3-2 in the fifth inning when John Kever Love hit a two-run double to give the Vikings the win. Latta will move on to host the Class A lower state championship game on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

In the other Class A lower state bracket, Johnsonville defeated East Clarendon to stay alive in the playoffs. The Flashes will travel to Lake View on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to determine who will face Latta for the lower state title.

In Class A softball, the Lady Vikings edged Green Sea-Floyds 4-3 with Anna Rogers striking out 18 on the mound for the win and Madison Owens leading at bat, going 3-for-4 with a RBI. Camryn Sawyer got the winning hit in the bottom of the fourth, scoring both Kayla Hyatt and Madison Owens for two RBI.

In the other Class A bracket, East Clarendon shut out Johnsonville 10-0 in five innings to advance to the lower state title game. The Lady Vikings will now travel to Johnsonville on Wednesday to determine who will face the Lady Wolverines on Friday.

In Class 2A baseball, the Dillon Wildcats eliminated Woodland 7-4 to stay alive in the lower state bracket. Kyle Britt hit two homers for the Wildcats and Weston Bailey picked up three RBIs and the win on the mound. The Wildcats will be at Loris on Wednesday night to determine who will face Bishop England in the lower state championship on Friday.

In Class 2A softball, the Lady Wildcats eliminated Barnwell 7-2. Darby Hamer got the win on the mound and Erin Bailey, Tara Grimsely, and Rebecca Callahan had two hits each with Bailey hitting a two-run homer. The Lady Wildcats will be on the road on Wednesday to face the winner of tonight’s game between Waccamaw and Silver Bluff.
