Playoff Update: Wildcats Advance to Lower State

Both the Dillon baseball and softball teams advanced to the Class 2A lower state playoffs as they claimed the District VIII titles on Thursday night.

In the baseball playoffs, Dillon fell 5-3 to Waccamaw, forcing a second game where the Wildcats shut out the Warriors 10-0 to claim the title.

In softball action, the Lady Wildcats shut out Aynor 10-0 in five innings, with Shaquailla German allowing the Blue Jackets just one hit. Rebecca Callahan hit a triple with three RBIs and Shayna Covington and Tara Grimsley had two hits each to lead the Wildcats, with Grimsley driving in four runs in the win. The Lady Wildcats didn’t allow a single run against them in the district playoffs, outscoring the competition 35-0.

Tonight, both Dillon teams will be back in action for the first round of the Class 2A lower state playoffs. The Dillon boys will be at Loris at 6:30 p.m. The Lions defeated Andrews 1-0 in the first round of district playoffs and defeated Aynor 8-4 and 5-0 to advance to the lower state with a 16-6 record. Bishop England will host Woodland in the other lower state bracket match-up.

The Lady Wildcats will be at Waccamaw at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Warriors defeated Lake City 11-1 in the first round and defeated Andrews 11-0 and 6-4 for the District VII title. Barnwell will host Silver Bluff in the other lower state game.

On Saturday, both the Latta Vikings and Lake View Wild Gators will play in the first round of the Class A lower state baseball playoffs. Lake View will be at Johnsonville, while Latta will host East Clarendon. The Flashes defeated Carvers Bay in round one and took a merciless 27-0 win over St. John’s in round two before claiming the District VI title with a 12-2 win over Carvers Bay. East Clarendon defeated Green Sea-Floyds 7-5 in round one and went 14-1 over Military Magnet before defeating the Trojans 7-3 for the district title.

Also on Saturday, the Lady Vikings will be hosting East Clarendon in the Class A softball playoffs. The Lady Wolverines slipped past Hannah-Pamplico with a 1-0 win in the first round of district playoffs and defeated Allendale-Fairfax 15-0 in the second round to advance to the district championship. East Clarendon managed to slip by the Raiders again for the title, defeating Hannah-Pamplico 1-0 on Thursday night.
