Lady Gators Split Double-Header with Lady Wildcats 6-4, 3-9

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators and Class 2A’s top-ranked Dillon Wildcats split a double-header on Monday night in Lake View in varsity softball action.

The Lady Gators took game one 6-4, while the Wildcats rallied for a 9-3 win in game two.

In the first game, neither team could score until the Lady Wildcats got two runners on the board in the top of the third inning. Lake View broke loose in the bottom of the fourth for six runs. Dillon managed two more runs in the top of the fifth to end the game 6-4.

Kayla Sanderson got the win on the mound for Lake View, pitching all five innings for nine hits, two walks, and three earned runs. She struck out five.

Taylor Price took the loss for the Wildcats, pitching two innings for four hits, two earned runs, and three outs.

At bat, Marissa Tyndall led Lake View with a home run and two RBIs and Morgan Herlong had two RBIs. The Lady Gators had five hits and two errors in the win.

Taylor Price went 2-for-3 to lead Dillon. The Wildcats had nine hits and two errors.

In game two, Dillon took the lead with two runs in the top of the first, and the Gators answered with one run in the bottom of the inning to trail 2-1. Dillon added three runs in the second to pull ahead 5-1, but Lake View added two to keep within two runs of the Wildcats. Dillon added another in the third to lead 6-3, and then pulled away with three in the fourth to seal the 9-3 win.

Shaquailla German got the win on the mound for the Wildcats, pitching all five innings for two hits, six walks, three runs, and 10 outs.

Marissa Tyndall took the loss for Lake View, pitching 2.33 innings for seven runs, six hits, two walks, and two outs.

Erin Bailey went 3-for-3 to lead Dillon at bat, and Tara Grimsley went 2-for-2 in the win. The Wildcats had six hits and no errors.

Marissa Tyndall and Kayla Sanderson led Lake View, each going 1-for-2 with a RBI. The Lady Gators had two hits and two errors in the loss.

Lake View improved to 13-5 overall after the double-header and remains 3-3 in Region 8A. The Lady Gators had moved up to seventh place in the state in the latest Class A softball coaches poll, with East Clarendon, Dixie, St. Joseph, Lewisville, and Fox Creek still rounding out the top five. Johnsonville, Latta, and Green Sea-Floyds trailed Lake View in the poll.

The Lady Wild Gators were scheduled to be at Hannah-Pamplico on Wednesday night and will wrap up region play on Friday when they host latta at 5:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!

On Monday, April 22, Lake View will travel to Mullins to round out the regular season beginning at 6:00 p.m. and district playoffs are set to begin on Thursday, April 25.
