Local Teams Prepare for Final Weeks of Season

Only three weeks remain in the varsity baseball and softball seasons. Here’s a look at where our teams stand as they return from spring break:

BASEBALL

• The Dillon Wildcats were 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Region 8-2A heading into their game against Mullins on March 28. The Wildcats only region loss before then was an 8-inning 6-5 loss to Waccamaw.

The Wildcats were scheduled to face Manning and Darlington over the break and will host Loris tonight at 6:30 p.m. Dillon won their first encounter 1-0. On Friday, the Wildcats will be at Waccamaw to take another shot at the Warriors.

• The Latta Vikings are currently at the top of Region 8-A with an undefeated 7-0 record. The Vikings fell to Cheraw in spring break tournament action for a 12-2 overall record.

Tonight, the Vikings will be away at Green Sea-Floyds and on Thursday Latta will be at Lamar. The Vikings will be back home to host Hannah-Pamplico on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Lake View’s Wild Gators are second in Region 8-A after falling 6-2 to Latta before the break. The Gators are now 13-1 overall and 6-1 in the region.

Tonight the Gators will be at Johnsonville and on Friday they’ll be back home to host the Green Sea-Floyds Trojans at 5:30 p.m.

• The Dillon Christian School Warriors have earned just one win so far in the regular season but will return to action tonight at Carolina Academy before hosting King’s on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats are at the top of Region 8-2A and also topped the recent Class 2A coaches poll. The Lady Cats are 13-1 overall and 8-0 in the region and picked up a tournament championship over spring break.

Tonight the Lady Wildcats will host Loris at 6:30 p.m. and Dillon is scheduled to host Green Sea-Floyds at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday before traveling to Waccamaw on Friday.

Latta’s Lady Vikings have split most of the season, returning from spring break with a 7-7 overall record and a 3-2 in Region 8-A. The Lady Vikings fell to both Johnsonville and Lake View for their region losses.

Tonight Latta will be at Green Sea-Floyds but the Lady Vikings will be at home on Wednesday to host Chesterfield and on Friday to host Hannah-Pamplico, with both games starting at 5:30 p.m.

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators have a 10-4 overall record but dropped all three of their opening region games for a 1-3 record in Region 8A. The Lady Gators will be looking to improve that record this week as they travel to Johnsonville tonight and host Green Sea-Floyds on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Dillon Christian School’s Lady Warriors are so far winless in regular season action, but had two weeks off for senior mission trips and spring break. The Warriors will return to action at Carolina Academy tonight at 6:00 p.m. and next Tuesday, April 16, at Pee Dee.
