A big seven-run sixth inning rally lifted the Dillon High School Junior Varsity Wildcats to a 9-2 win over Lake View Friday evening to close out the 2013 softball season with an 11-1 record. The only loss for the young Lady Cats was to Aynor two weeks ago.

The Lady Cats scored twice in the second inning on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Tiffany Dwyer hit a single with one out in the inning, stole second and went to third on a passed ball and scored the first run on another passed ball. Auh’Keria “Lefty” Smiling worked Lake View’s starting and losing pitcher Marissa Tyndall for a base on balls and later scored on another wild pitch.

After Chelsea Williams led off the fourth with a walk and went to second on a passed ball, Tyndall drove her home with a single to left field to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Lake View hurler began to tire in the fifth inning, giving up four hits, walking one and hitting a batter as the Lady Cats sent eleven batters to the plate. Brittney Miller led off the inning by reaching safely on a throwing error and stole second. She scored on a hit by Sha’Miya McLellan and Bri Froneberger followed with her second hit of the game. Sierra Dixon drove McLellan home with a sacrifice fly ball to center and Macy Johnson’s single to center scored Froneberger.

The rally continued with Smiling earning a walk and Taylor Blackmon followed with a fielder’s choice that scored Johnson with the fourth run of the inning. Johnna Rogers singled sharply down the third base line to drive Smiling and Blackmon home and she scored when a ground ball off the bat of Miller in her second at bat of the inning went through the legs of the Lake View second baseman.

Dwyer also ran into control problems in the top of the sixth inning, walking the first three batters that she faced, and gave up a single to Ashley Sanders and hit Kayla Page with a pitch to score Hannah Miller. Rogers was brought on in relief and gave up a hit, but with two out, Lefty Smiling, with her back to the plate, ran a fly ball down in center off the bat of Tyndall to end the inning and the game.
