Neither team could score throughout the first three innings, but Lake View got on the board in the top of the fourth with two runs and added a third in the sixth to lead 3-0. In the bottom of the sixth, Raven Baxley hit a home run to put the Vikings on the board, and Dori Webster hit single that scored Camryn Sawyer and Madison Owen to tie the game at 3-3. But the Lady Gators took back the lead in the seventh with Tyndall’s homer, and held off the Vikings in the bottom of the inning for the 5-3 win.
Kayla Sanderson pitched the last two innings for the Lady Gators to earn the win on the mound. She gave up one hit and one walk while striking out two. Anna Rogers pitched the complete game for Latta for six hits, five runs, three earned runs, two walks, and 14 outs.Marissa Tyndall led Lake View at bat, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs, and Kayla Sanderson went 2-for-4. Lake View had six hits and four errors in the win.
At bat for Latta, Camryn Sawyer went 3-for-4; Raven Baxley went 2-for-4 with a home run and a RBI; Dori Webster went 2-for-4 with two RBIs; and Madison Owen went 1-for-4 with a double. The Lady Vikings had nine hits and four errors.
The Lady Gators improved to 10-4 overall and picked up their first region win of the season for a 1-3 record in Region 8-A. Latta slips to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the region.Both Lake View and Latta will return to action on the road on Tuesday, April 9. The Lady Gators will be at Johnsonville at 5:30 p.m., while the Lady Viking will be at Green Sea-Floyds.
