Lady Gators Shut Down Bears, Shut Out by Flashes

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators shut down Carvers Bay 17-4 on Wednesday but were shut out 4-0 by Johnsonville on Friday night in varsity softball action.

Lake View was on the road to Hemingway for Wednesday’s game, where they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before adding eight runs in the second and one in the third for an 11-0 lead. The Lady Bears got all four of their runs in the bottom of the third, and Lake View capped the win with six runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Morgan Herlong picked up the win on the mound, pitching six innings for five hits, three earned runs, one walk, two hit by pitch, and six outs. Chelsea Jones took the loss for Carvers Bay, pitching six innings for 14 hits, 17 runs, three walks, two hit by pitch, and three outs.

Morgan Herlong, Kayla Sanderson, and Amber Locklear each had a home run in the win for Lake View. Herlong went 1-for-3 with two RBIs; Sanderson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs; and Locklear went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Marissa Tyndall went 4-for-5 for the Lady Gators and picked up two RBIs.

The Lady Gators had 14 hits and two errors in the win. Carvers Bay had five hits and four errors.

On Friday, the Lady Gators hosted Johnsonville and fell 4-0 to the Lady Flashes. Johnsonville scored one run each in the top of the first and second innings and added two in the third to lead 4-0. Neither team would cross home again for the rest of the game.

Ashley Hanna earned the win for Johnsonville, pitching all seven innings for five hits, one walk, and four outs. Herlong took the loss for Lake View, pitching three innings for seven hits, four runs, three earned runs, and three outs.

Tyndall led Lake View at bat, going 2-for-3. The Lady Gators had five hits and two errors in the loss.

Alyssa Hinson led Johnsonville, going 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI, and Kayla Ard went 2-for-4. Annsley Mace went 1-for-4 for the Flashes with a RBI. Johnsonville had 11 hits and no errors in the win.

The Lady Gators slip to 9-3 overall and 0-2 in Region 8A with the loss. After a rocky start, the Flashes have improved to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the region.

The Lady Gators were scheduled to be at Green Sea-Floyds tonight at 5:30 p.m. and will be at Latta on Thursday night at 5:30 to take on the Lady Vikings. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
