Lady Knights Down Vikings 8-6

Latta’s Lady Vikings stumbled 8-6 against the Class 4A West Florence Knights at home on Friday, March 8, in softball action.

West Florence took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and widened it to 5-0 with three runs in the third. Latta brought in three runners in the bottom of the inning to trail 5-3, but West Florence scored three more in the top of the fourth to pull ahead 8-3. The Lady Vikings brought in two more in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the sixth, but couldn’t close the gap before the seventh inning, falling 8-6.

Tori Grimsley had four hits and three RBI with two stolen bases and Macy Hyatt picked up two RBI. Mikenzi Caniglia had three hits for the Lady Vikings. Cora Owens stole a base, and Dori Webster was caught stealing. The Lady Vikings had 14 hits and one error in the loss.

Grimsley took the loss on the mound for Latta, pitching six innings with six outs, hitting two.

West Florence had 17 hits in the win, including two triples and two doubles.

The Lady Vikings were scheduled to host Conway on Monday and will be at Johnsonville on Wednesday night to open region play. On Friday night, the Latta ladies will be at West Florence, and on Tuesday, March 19, the Lady Vikings will be back home to host Johnsonville at 5:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
