Vikings Earn 7-5 Win Over Mullins

The Latta Vikings improved to 3-1 as they opened regular season play with a 7-5 win over the Auctioneers in Mullins on Tuesday night.

Latta took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Mullins picked up a run in the bottom of the second to trail 2-1. Latta scored four in the top of the third and added another in the fourth to pull ahead 7-1, but Mullins held them off in the top of the fifth and added two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to trail 7-5. Neither team could cross the plate in the second, allowing the Vikings to maintain the win.

Jeremy Jenkins picked up the win on the mound for Latta, pitching four innings with six outs, two hits, one run, and one earned run. Christian Hendrix got the save, striking out two and allowing one hit in the seventh inning. Atkinson took the loss for Mullins, pitching four innings and allowing seven hits, seven runs, four earned runs, and two walks with two outs.

Lenneau Berry led the Vikings at bat, going 3-for-4 with one RBI, and John Kever Love went 2-for-3 with three RBI. The Vikings had 11 hits and two errors in the win.

David Strause led Mullins, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The Auctioneers had five hits and four errors in the loss.
