Lake View Wild Gators Defeat Mullins in Baseball, Softball Openers

Both the Lake View Wild Gator baseball and softball teams picked up run-ruled wins over the visiting Mullins Auctioneers to open regular season play on Monday, March 4.

Lake View jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first in baseball action and kept Mullins at bay until the top of the third. The Gators added two runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-1 and proceeded to add two in the fourth and four in the fifth for an 11-1 win over the Auctioneers.

Weston Rogers picked up the win on the mound for Latta, pitching 2.6 innings with five outs, walking two. David Stroud took the loss for Mullins, pitching 3.6 innings and allowing five hits, seven runs, four earned runs, and a walk. He struck out four.

Lake View had nine hits in the game, with Nate Lewis going 2-for-4 with a RBI and Eric Munoz going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Mullins had one hit and four errors in the loss.

In softball action, the game was scoreless through the first inning, but the Lady Gators broke loose in the bottom of the second for nine runs and added five more in the third and one in the fourth to lead 15-0. Mullins got three on the board in the top of the fifth before the game was run-ruled, giving Lake View a 15-3 victory.

Morgan Herlong pitched all five innings for the Lady Gators, striking out nine and walking one while allowing five hits and three runs.

Amber Locklear led Lake View at bat, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Kayla Sanderson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Morgan Herlong went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Lake View had 12 hits and two errors in the win.

Antia Legette led Mullins at bat, going 1-for-3. The Lady Auctioneers had five hits and two errors in the loss.

The Wild Gators are now 5-0 and the Lady Wild Gators improved to 4-1 as they opened regular season play.

The Lady Gators were scheduled to host Carvers Bay on Wednesday night and will host Dillon Christian School next Tuesday, March 12, at 6:00 p.m. The Lake View boys will be hosting the Warriors on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and will be at Dillon Christian on Tuesday. Make plans to attend!
