Region 8 Girls Shut Out in Playoffs; Flashes, Wildcats, Auctioneers Advance

All four Region 8A girls teams were eliminated in the first round of Class A playoffs, while Johnsonville was the only Region 8 team to advance in the boys playoffs, and Dillon and Mullins advanced in Class 2A girls playoffs.

In the Girls Class A playoffs, top-ranked Latta fell 57-56 to Region 7A’s fourth place Carvers Bay and Lake View fell 71-23 to second place Timmonsville. Johnsonville also fell 70-49 to Region 7A’s C.E. Murray, and Hannah-Pamplico fell 45-30 to Region 7’s Hemingway.

Also in the lower state bracket, Whale Branch defeated Lincoln 58-18 to advance to face C.E. Murray tonight; Cross defeated Bethune-Bowman 42-28 to advance to face Hemingway; Estill defeated Baptist Hill 41-10 to face Timmonsville tonight; and Denmark-Olar defeated St. John’s to advance to face Carvers Bay.

In the Class A Boys playoffs, Latta fell 65-57 to Carvers Bay and Hannah-Pamplico fell 61-50 to Timmonsville while Green Sea-Floyds fell 59-54 to C.E. Murray.

Johnsonville was the only Region 8 team to advance, defeating Hemingway 76-55 in the first round. The Flashes were ranked as the number one team in Class A boys basketball in the final South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association poll of the regular season.

In other lower state action, Whale Branch defeated Cross 80-33; Baptist Hill defeated Bethune-Bowman 56-44; Military Magnet defeated Estill 55-42; and Allendale-Fairfax defeated St. John’s.

In the Girls Class 2A playoffs, Dillon defeated Lake Marion 66-52 and Mullins defeated Lee Central 73-60 to advance to the second round of playoffs while Waccamaw fell 60-33 to Region 7-2A leader Lake City and Marion fell 60-27 to Kingstree.

The Lady Wildcats will travel to face Lake City on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Lake City was ranked second in the state in the final SCBCA poll of the regular season while Dillon was tenth.

Also in Class 2A girls action, Burke defeated Wade Hampton 55-44 in the first round of the girls Class 2A playoffs; top-ranked Bishop England defeated Bamberg-Ehrhardt 88-34; Battery Creek defeated Silver Bluff 57-18; and Ridgeland-Hardeeville defeated Calhoun County 52-28.
