Lady Gators Edge East Clarendon 54-53 for First Win of Season

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators got thier first win of the season on Tuesday, December 18, as they edged the East Clarendon Wolverines 54-53.

Jasmine Ford led the Gators with a game-high 25 points with Tranya Ford adding 17 in the win. Junetta Strickland picked up nine rebounds and added two points, and Diayah Williams and Toni Nelson each added four points with Kayla Sanderson scoring three.

Lake View girls’ coach Larry Inman said that Jasmine Ford is an eighth grader who is going to be an outstanding player from the point guard position.

“She’s young, but she’s willing to take on big tasks,” he said. “I ask a lot from her, but I try to keep it simple for her to run offensive sets and to read defensive sets.”

“Jasmine really takes the game to heart,” he added. “She’s a leader and the team rallies around her.”
For East Clarendon, T. Kannady scored a team-high 23 piots; D. McFadden, 19; L. Altman, 9; and S. Jackson, 2.

The Lady Wild Gators headed into the holiday break with a 1-5 record, with four of those losses coming from the Class 2A Dillon Wildcats and Aynor Blue Jackets.

Lake View returns from the break on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, to open Class A play when they travel to Johnsonville at 6:00 p.m. The Lady Flashes have a 2-4 record heading into the season, earning wins over Class 2A’s Andrews and Aynor to open the season, but Johnsonville fell twice to Class A’s Hemingway and this week fell to Carvers Bay and Waccamaw.

Of the other teams in Region 8. Latta was undefeated at 4-0 heading into last Thursday’s game against Dillon and Hannah-Pamplico is 2-4, while Creek Bridge and Green Sea-Floyds remain winless so far in the regular season. All teams begin region play on Tuesday, January 8.
