Public-Private Partnership Board Report-November

By Haywood Proctor, Jr.,
Chairman-Dillon County Public-Private Partnership

The Dillon County Public- Private Partnership met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Dillon County Economic Development office conference room.  Present were 16 members and one guest.  Mr. Mark Williams of Strategic Planning Inc. presented a program on the assets and liabilities of Dillon County.  Mr. Williams pointed out to the Partnership many positive assets that we have available in Dillon County.
He stated, “If counties were not ready for growth that they would be left out of the economic development process.”  He said, “Dillon County’s main asset is our access to Interstate 95.”  He also referred to our location near a main line railroad as another asset.  The number of certified industrial sites will also make Dillon County attractive to potential clients looking for an ideal location for their company.   Mr. William’s report was very encouraging.  He should have his final report completed and ready for perusal by county council sometime after the first of the year.
Mr. Clay Young, Dillon County Administrator, also gave the Partnership an update on the ongoing project of cleaning up around our interstate interchanges.  We commend Mr. Young and the county employees for a great start on a very important project.  The interchanges look better but we still must improve these sites for future prospects.  We ask all the citizens of Dillon County for help as we embark on this “clean-up” effort.
Please volunteer your church, civic group or individual efforts as we take pride in this “clean-up” project.  Our Economic Development director, Mr. Tonny McNeil, gave the Partnership an update on potential industry that is looking at Dillon County.  He stated, “I am working on several very promising projects that should result in more jobs for the citizens of Dillon County.”  We believe that Dillon County has a very bright future and that it takes everyone to make it work.
Please remember, “Our best days are ahead of us!”
