Lady Warriors Finish 1-1 in Preseason Basketball Tournament

Dillon Christian School’s Lady Warriors fell 62-24 to Village Christian Academy but defeated Neuse Christian Academy 36-16 in the basketball preseason Tip-Off Tournament in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The Lady Warriors took on Village Christian on Friday, November 9, but were outscored in every quarter. Village took a 15-8 lead in the first and outscored Dillon 11-7 in the second to lead 26-15 at the half. Village added another 26 points in the third and 10 in the fourth while DCS added only nine points in the second half.

Lauren Lee hit five of 11 two point attempts and three of five free throws to lead the Lady Warriors in scoring. Amanda Bass, Kathryn Brown, and Alex Lane each sank a two-pointer, and Bass made three of four free throws. Brown and Lane sank one free throw each.

Brown picked up 11 rebounds and Kylee Sullivan snagged eight, with Lee grabbing five and Bass and Lane each grabbing four. Sarah Fitzgibbon picked up two defensive rebounds, and Makalai Sweat and Caroline Shelley got one rebound each.

Lee made seven steals and Bass made three steals and two assists. Brown and Sullivan each made one steal.

On Saturday, the Lady Warriors faced Neuse Christian and came away with a 36-16 win. The Warriors led Neuse 7-5 in the first quarter, but Neuse tied things up by outscoring DCS 7-5 in the second for a 12-12 score at half time. But the Lady Warriors returned to the court to outscore Neuse 9-1 in the third and 15-3 in the fourth to seal the 36-16 win.

Lee led the scoring again with nine two-pointers and six of 10 free throws. Lee also grabbed eight rebounds and made four steals for the Lady Warriors. Shelley picked up four rebounds and Sweat, Lane, and Greta Seay each had one. Sweat and Lane made one steal each.

The Lady Warriors finished the tournament with a 1-1 record, and are scheduled to be at Low Country Prep in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, this Friday, November 16 at 6:15 p.m.

On Tuesday, November 20, the Lady Warriors will host Florence Christian at 6:30 p.m. Make plans to attend to support our local team as their season gets underway!
