Vanna Jean Dozier Wood

Vanna Jean Dozier Wood of Eatonton, GA entered eternal rest with her Savior Jesus Christ on September 9, 2012.  She was born and raised in South Carolina moving to GA in 1960.
Van having married young acquired her BS in Education at Augusta College while being a mother to her three grade school age children.  She taught English and Gifted classes in McDuffie County for four years prior to the family move to Macon, GA in 1977. Following that move, she completed her MS in Social Science from Mercer University and taught in Bibb County.  She served as the Coordinator for the Gifted and Talented, K-12, and was the Director of Academic Competition until she retired in 1983.  Following retirement, she and her husband, Joe, founded Wood Tours, Inc. a Student Educational Travel Co. which provided an opportunity for many students to travel throughout the USA who may otherwise have never left the state of Georgia.
In 1999, they moved to Lake Oconee in Eatonton, GA and Vanna served on the Vestry and as the pianist at All Angel’s Episcopal Church, her  home church, from 2000 until 2009 when her disease, ALS, made her retirement a necessity.  She also enjoyed being a Core Group Leader in Community Bible Study for years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyburn (Ted) and Roxie Dozier; sister, Judy Marsh; granddaughter, Katy Wood, and her husband, Joseph  C. Wood.  She is survived by her brother, Ted and Susie Dozier of Round Rock, TX; and her children Trey and Debbie Wood of Macon, GA with sons Paul and Joseph; Sam and Roxanne Wood Turnipseed of Aiken, SC with son Craig  Francis; and Dan and Kathy Wood of Aiken, SC with sons Dane Wood and Stewart and Jeanette Wood
Vanna has lived well, loved well, and taught many the values of faith, family, and education. She will be missed but we celebrate her entry  into the presence of the Lord.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 302 North Madison Ave., Eatonton, GA 31024 on September 24,  2012 at 1 pm with Father John Keeler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Vanna  request all memorials be made to Tranquilidad Foundation – A Home for Children and Youth, PO Box 5406, Aiken, SC 29804, a non-profit founded by her daughter, Roxanne and husband, Sam.
