SCJGA Pee Dee Tournament Concludes with Carr, Rogers Advancing to All Stars

The South Carolina Junior Golf Association’s Pee Dee Chapter 2-Day Championship wrapped up on Wednesday, August 1, with Dillon’s Jim Carr and Lake View’s Ashley Rogers advancing to the All Stars.

The two-day championship tournament began on Tuesday, July 31, at Florence Country Club and continued Wednesday at the Country Club of South Carolina.

In the Boys 10-12 division, James H. Potter and Cameron Mills both shot a 51 on Tuesday, while Jacob Frierson and Noah Dangerfield each shot a 55. Wednesday saw Mills claim the top spot with a 44 for a total of 95. Potter shot a 46 for a two-day total of 97, and Dangerfield shot a 48 for a 103. Frierson finished fourth with a total of 107.

Mills and Potter, both of Florence, will advance to the All Stars Invitational at Seabrook Island.
In the Boys 13-14, it was Dillon’s Jim Carr all the way as he shot a 79 on Tuesday and an 80 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 159. Jacob Thompson shot a 168 over two days for second place, and William Harrison Breeden finished third with a 173.

Carr, who won every match in which he played in the Summer Tour, will advance to the All Stars along with Thompson.

In the competitive Boys 15-18, John Lurie Pate of Coward shot a 70 to lead on Tuesday, with Nick Schuster shooting a 71; Ryan Parrott earning a 73; and Carson Coker scoring a 75. In the second day of action, Parrott finished first with a 73, while Pate, Schuster, and Benjamin Walker each shot a 74. With the combined two-day totals, it was Pate in first with 1 144, Schuster in second at 145, and Parrott in third with a 146.

Normally, Pate and Schuster would be heading for the All Stars, but Pate and Parrott were not eligible to play in the All Stars since both will be playing collegiate golf in the fall. Pate is headed to Francis Marion to play for the Patriots, while Parrott will be playing at Coker College.

Instead, Schuster and fourth-place finisher Carson Lee Coker will be representing the division at the All Star Invitational. Coker finished with a two-day total of 159.

Latta’s Michael McWhite also participated in the two-day tournament, shooting an 82 on day one and a 95 on day two for a total of 177.

In the Boys 8-9 division, Eugene Zeigler shot a 38 and 41 to advance to the All Stars. Matthew Gannon shot a 60 and a 68 for second place.

In girls competition, Shino Sonoda shot a 91 and Kiana Baker shot a 99 in the Girls 11-13 division on day one, while Lake View’s Ashley Rogers shot a 93 in the Girls 14-18. On day two, all three competed under the Girls 14-18, with Shino Sonoda shooting a 96 and Rogers one point behind with a 97. Baker shot a 117 on day two.

Rogers and Sarina Sonoda will be representing the Girls 14-18 at the All Stars, while Shino Sonoda and Baker will be representing the Girls 11-13.

The two-day state All Stars Invitational will be held at Seabrook Island Golf Club on Saturday, August 25, and Sunday, August 26, with a practice day on Friday, August 24.
