The eight-team double-elimination tournament kicked off on Friday, July 13, with opening ceremonies at East Clarendon High School.
Despite tough competition, Dillon’s Debs advanced through the field, taking a loss to the undefeated Turbeville but staying alive in the tournament.
On Wednesday, July 18, Dillon faced Turbeville a second time and managed to come away with a 4-3 win. The win created a three-way tie between Turbeville, Dillon, and Georgetown with one loss each.
Turbeville drew a bye, so Dillon and Georgetown faced off on Thursday, July 19, at 5:00 p.m. and picked up the win to face Turbeville at 7:00.
Dillon got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the second, but it was the only one Dillon’s Debs would get in the championship game. Turbeville picked up three runs in the bottom of the third and added another in the bottom of the fifth for the 4-1 win.
Turbeville, who won the state title last year as well, will be advancing to the Dixie Debs World Series in Powhatan, Virginia, beginning Friday, August 3. Last summer Turbeville’s Debs went 2-2 in the World Series.
