Dillon, Latta Advance in Dixie Youth Majors District 10 Tournament

The Dixie Youth Majors District 10 Tournament kicked off Friday night in Dillon with six teams from the area playing for the district title.

The six-team double elimination tournament began Friday, July 6, with Marion taking on McLeod Park. McLeod Park led 5-1 in the third inning and claimed the win with a final score of 9-4.

Next up, Latta took on Lake View, with both local teams holding each other scoreless through the first inning. But Latta took a 6-0 lead in the second, and held Lake View to just one run in the third. Latta added three more runs to claim the win with a final score of 9-1.

In Friday’s final matchup, Dillon took on Mullins. Both teams scored in the first inning to tie things 1-1, but Mullins ultimately claimed a 3-2 win over Dillon.

The action continued on Saturday with Marion taking on Lake View to kick off the day. Both teams were scoreless at the end of the first, with no runs, no hits, and no one left on base. But Marion scored seven runs in the top of the second with four hits and one runner left. Lake View got a hit and two runners in the bottom of the inning, but couldn’t quite cross home.

Marion added another run in the top of the third, and Lake View got on the board in the bottom of the inning to trail 8-1. In the top of the fifth, Marion scored two runs to widen the lead to 10-1, but a rally from Lake View in the bottom of the sixth brought the final score to 10-7 with Marion advancing.

In Saturday’s winners bracket game, Latta took on McLeod Park but fell 17-4.

Sunday’s action kicked off with Marion and Dillon. The two teams were tied 8-8 at the end of the fourth, and Dillon ended the top of the fifth with one hit and three runners on base. But Dillon managed to get four runners across home in the top of the sixth to claim a 12-8 win.

In Sunday’s winners bracket match, Mullins took on McLeod Park, with Mullins edging McLeod 4-2 to advance to the tournament semi-finals.

On Monday night, Dillon was scheduled to play Mullins at 8 p.m. and Latta was scheduled to face McLeod Park to determine who advances to the final tonight at 7 p.m. A second game will be played Wednesday, July 11, at 7 p.m. if necessary.
