Children, ages 3–8, arrived at East Dillon Baptist Church last week for “Adventures on Promise Island.” On entering the chapel each night for “Seaside Celebration.” They imagined themselves on an exotic island with scenery of palm trees, a sandy beach, aqua blue ocean and beautiful birds and butterflies, even a tiki hut. Together they joined in the Pledges of Allegiance to the American Flag, the Christian Flag, and the Bible/ They also learned new praise songs.
Following the assembly, they went to their classes where VBS leaders taught them one of God’s Promise each night. After class time the children moved to Craft Class where leaders Leomia Powell and Judy Powell helped them make a craft that pertained to the Promise they had just learned. Next, the youngsters visited Lifeguard Lagoon where Mike Tyler, acting as the Lifeguard, reviewed the Promise with them through interaction. Island decorations were used throughout the church.
Children enjoyed delicious refreshments at the Coconut Café. In the café was a big red crab where children poked their heads through a hole to have their pictures taken as a souvenir of their trip to the Promise Island. Fun games and activities, led by Stanley Goodwin and the Youth of East Dillon, took place outside on the grass before returning to Seaside Celebration to wind up each night’s adventure time.

All week long a Girls vs. Boys Contest was held to see which could collect the most offering. The Girls were the winners and received a Trophy that will remain on display at the church until next year’s contest. The money collected will go to the Youth Summer activity.
Friday night each child received a certificate for being in Bible School. Average attendance for the week was 125 children and leaders. It was an exciting week enjoyed by everyone, and it was also a learning experience of the promise God has made to those who love and serve Him.
Directors of this year’s VBS were Kathy Rowell and Wendy McDaniel who did an outstanding job in all the planning and preparation. They expressed their thanks to all who gave their time and energy to make the week successful for the children of East Dillon Baptist and the community.
