Marcus Leroy Shankle, USN Ret. HT1, age 76, of North Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 25th, 2012 at MUSC Medical Center.
He was born in Laurel Hill, NC, on August 25th, 1925 to the late Lemmie H. Shankle, Sr. and Cleo Johnson Shankle. He enjoyed fishing, camping out, and bluegrass music. He served his country in the United States Navy and retired after a distinguished career of 20 years, including during the Vietnam Era and the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS Ajax and was active in reunions with the ship’s crew.
Marcus is survived by his wife, Fusae Funatsu of North Charleston, SC; son Mark W. Lane (Lisa) of Williamsburg, VA; daughters Audra K. Shankle of West Palm Beach, FL, and Brenda Shankle of Columbia, SC; grandson Jared L. Hudson of Columbia, SC; brother Lemmie H. Shankle, Jr. of Dillon, SC; sister Grace McDaniel of Dillon, SC; and numerous other family members and friends.
