Dillon Native’s Work Exhibited In Raleigh

Dillon native Jerrette McCrimmon, who now lives in Wadesboro, N.C., has artwork on display in Raleigh, N.C. at the 2012 NC Community College Art Exhibition.
His work was selected to represent Richmond Community College, where is majoring in the Web Technologies and Computer Information Technology curriculums.
His composition features both a color and a black and white collaboration image of the jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie.
“I started out drawing cartoons. If my mom wouldn’t buy me cartoon books, I’d make my own. I remember getting in trouble in the second or third grade for not doing my schoolwork because I was drawing on my good paper instead. That year won a 50-cent piece as my first ever award in the elementary art show and she couldn’t believe it. My art is my identity mainly because people familiar with me know that’s what I do. I’ve been an artist for about 100 seasons. I like realism, being diverse and keep the reputation of only providing professional quality artwork. I can work in any medium, and draw, but love the softness of real life you get with using an airbrush. It’s the drive I gave myself when I look back in my senior yearbook to see my name or picture is not listed there to be a superlative or to be successful after graduation, it bothered me and is something I won’t ever forget,” said McCrimmon.
McCrimmon creates t-shirt designs during street festivals and has also created church murals, banners, and logos.
The most recent logo can be seen on the shirts for the Minority Male Mentoring Program at RCC, in which he is an active member. Jerrette is a 1996 graduate of Dillon High School and is the son of Myrtle McCrimmon of Dillon.
