Lady Vikings Defeat Lamar

The Lady Vikings defeated Lamar’s Silver Foxes 9-6 at home in Latta on Wednesday, April 11, in softball action.

The Lady Vikings got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 4-0. Lamar got three runs in the top of the fifth to trail by just one point, but Latta added another run in the bottom of the inning and four more in the bottom of the sixth to lead 9-3. Lamar mounted an offensive in the top of the seventh for three runs, but the game ended with the Vikings ahead 9-6.

Tori Grimsley picked up the win for Latta, pitching all seven innings for 10 hits, six runs, two earned runs, two walks, and 10 outs. Dillon Low took the loss for Lamar, pitching six innings for 11 hits, nine runs, seven earned runs, a walk, and three outs.

Chelsea Welty led Latta at bat, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs. Dori Webster went 3-for-4 with a double. Latta had 11 hits and three errors in the win.

Lamar’s Anderson went 2-for-3 to lead the Silver Foxes at bat. Lamar had a total of 10 hits and two errors in the game.

Latta improves to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in Region 8-A as the season head to a close with the Lady Vikings in second place. Green Sea-Floyds leads the region, with Johnsonville in third and Lake View fourth.

The Lady Vikings were scheduled to host Carvers Bay on Monday and hosted Hemingway Tuesday for a doubleheader. On Friday, April 20, the Vikings travel to Lake View to face the Lady Wild Gators, and on Monday, April 23, Latta closes the season when they host Hannah-Pamplico.
