Lady Vikings Fall to Undefeated GSF

The Lady Vikings had their hands full against the Lady Trojans in Green Sea-Floyds on Tuesday as Latta fell 2-9 to the Region 8A leaders.

Green Sea-Floyds started things off with two runs in the first, but a home run from Chelsea Welty brought in Dori Webster as well to tie things up in the top of the third. But the Trojans scored three runs in the bottom of the third and another three in the fourth to take a solid 8-2 lead and capped the win with one more run in the sixth.

Hope Elliot picked up the win for Green Sea-floyds, and Anna Rogers took the loss for Latta. Rogers pitched all six innings, giving up nine runs, two earned runs, seven hits, and two walks. She struck out eight.

At bat, Welty went 1-for-4 with the home run and two RBIs; Macy Hyatt went 2-for-2 and got to base on a hit by pitch; Raven Baxley went 2-for-3; Tori Grimsley went 1-for-4; Dori Webster got to base on two walks and scored one run; and Dallas Sweat and Mikenzi Caniglia each went 1-for-3.

Latta’s record is now 8-4 overall and 4-2 in Region 8A, while Green Sea-Floyds is 11-1 with an undefeated 8-0 in the region. The Lady Trojans are currently in first place, with the Lady Vikings in second, Johnsonville in third with a 4-3 record, and Lake View in fourth at 3-4.

The latest South Carolina Softball Coaches poll saw Latta slip from sixth to seventh place over the past week, while Green Sea-Floyds was ranked fourth. Abbeville and Chesterfield retained the top two spots and Landrum moved up to third.

On Wednesday night, the Lady Vikings were scheduled to host Lamar at 6:15 in a non-region match, and on Monday, April 16, Latta will host Carvers Bay at 5:30 p.m.
