Lady Gators Take Down Bears 15-3

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators took down the Carvers Bay Bears 15-3 in softball action in Hemingway on Thursday.

Lake View kicked things off with four runs in the top of the first and added three in the second and five in the third to take a 12-0 lead. Carvers Bay scored three in the bottom of the fourth, but Lake View held them off in the fifth and added three more runs of their own in the sixth to seal the win.

Kayla Sanderson got the win on the mound, pitching all six innings and allowing only six hits, three runs, two earned runs, and one walk. She struck out five. Jones took the loss for Carvers Bay, pitching four innings for nine hits, 12 runs, six earned runs, and three walks, striking out four.

At bat for Lake View, Amber Locklear went 2-for-4 with four RBIs; Chelsea Spivey went 2-for-3 with three RBIs; and Kateland Cox went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Lake View had a total of 11 hits and three errors in the game. Carvers Bay had six hits and four errors.

Lake View’s record improves to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in Region 8A. The Lady Gators are fourth in the region.

With seven games remaining, including four region games, there is still time for the Lady Gators to further improve. So far this season, Kayla Sanderson has 13 hits with a batting average of .448, and Morgan Herlong has 15 hits with an average of .405. Herlong and Chelsea Spivey each have 12 runs.

Next up, Lake View will host the Hemingway Tigers tonight at 5:30 p.m. for a doubleheader. The Lady Gators will be off for the rest of the week, but return to action in Marion on April 11.
