Tiebreaking Triple Lifts Latta 7-4 Over Lake View

Latta’s Lady Vikings broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to give them a 7-4 win over Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators on Tuesday night in Latta.

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first, but Lake View answered with two in the second. Latta added another run in the bottom of the second to lead 4-2, and both teams held each other off through the third.

Lake View tied things up 4-4 in the top of the fourth with two runs, but no one crossed the plate again until the bottom of the sixth when Latta’s Dallas Sweat hit a two-run triple to put Latta ahead 6-4. The Vikings added one more run in the inning, and held off Lake View in the top of the seventh to claim the 7-4 win.

Tori Grimsley pitched five innings for Latta for 10 hits, four runs, two earned runs, and one walk, striking out six. Anna Rogers pitched the final two innings for the win, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Morgan Herlong pitched all six innings for Lake View, allowing 11 hits, seven runs, and three earned runs. She struck out one and had two batters hit by pitch.

At bat for the Lady Vikings, Dallas Sweat went 1-for-4 with the game-winning triple, two RBIs, and one run scored. Tori Grimsley went 3-for-4 with two runs scored; Dori Webster went 2-for-4 with one run scored; Macy Hyatt went 1-for-4 with an RBI; Allison Moody went 1-for-4; Mikenzi Caniglia went 1-for-3; and Sarah Lane went 1-for-2.

Raven Baxley scored one run with an RBI for Latta, and Chelsea Welty, who went 3-for-3 against Hannah-Pamplico last week, went 1-for-2 against Lake View with an RBI and two runs scored.

Morgan Herlong led Lake View at bat, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Chelsea Spivey went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and Ally Spivey went 2-for-4 for the Lady Wild Gators.

Latta’s record improves to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in Region 8A. Lake View is now 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the region.

The Lady Vikings are scheduled to host Johnsonville tonight at 5:30 p.m. in their last game before spring break. They return to action at Green Sea Floyds on Tuesday, April 10.

Lake View will be at Carver’s Bay tonight at 5:30 p.m. to take on the Bears. The Lady Wild Gators are scheduled to host Hemingway on Tuesday, April 3, in a double header beginning at 5:30 p.m.
