Demolition Halted On Dilmar Buildings

By Betsy Finklea
DHEC has halted the demolition of the Dilmar buildings, according to Adam Myrick of DHEC.
Myrick said that the city must do an asbestos survey, and they still must get a permit from DHEC whether the asbestos is present or not.
Myrick said it was determined that the building does contain asbestos, and DHEC requested that the city stop demolition.
He said an asbestos abatement plan must be done on how to remove and dispose of the material.
The buildings have been under discussion over the past week and a half. A local developer made a plea to save the buildings at a Dillon City Council meeting on March 12th, but demolition began on the buildings on March 13th before it was stopped.
