State Basketball Playoff Updates

Although all our local basketball teams have officially been eliminated, the chase for a state title continues elsewhere.

In Class A girls action, C.E. Murray defeated Region 8’s #1 seed Hemingway by a score of 45-39. Meanwhile, #2 seed Timmonsville knocked off #1 seed Ridgeland 61-35. The Ridgeland Jaguars were responsible for eliminating Latta last week.

In the up state, Denmark-Olar defeated Landrum 64-49 and Abbeville defeated Calhoun County 48-38.
In Class 2A girls action, Keenan defeated Palmetto 37-29 and Columbia eliminated Cheraw 37-32 in the upper state bracket.

In the lower state, both Region 8 powerhouses Marion and Mullins were eliminated. Bishop England took out the Swamp Foxes 37-32, while Lake City downed the Auctioneers 58-52. Bishop England will now take on Lake City at the Florence Civic Center on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for the lower state title.

The Class AA boys were scheduled to play again on Wednesday, when North Charleston was scheduled to host Mullins and Marion was scheduled to host Timberland in the lower state bracket. The upper state will see action from Carolina at Newberry and Keenan at Lee Central.

In Class 3A, Dreher defeated Crestwood 50-42 and Lower Richland defeated Marlboro County 52-30 to advance to the girls lower state championship game. The upper state saw Clinton defeat Seneca 53-48 and Wade Hampton down Blue Ridge 64-53 to advance to the upper state championship.

In 3A boys action, Lower Richland took out Lake Marion 73-64 and Hartsville defeated Wilson 63-57. In the upper state bracket, Wade Hampton defeated Berea 53-51 and Southside defeated Eastside 62-52.

In Class 4A, the Dorman ladies defeated Greenwood 64-60, Dutch Fork eliminated Clover 63-33, Orangeburg-Wilkinson defeated Colleton County 52-39, and Goose Creek defeated Ridge View 62-51. The 4A lower and upper state championship games will be held on Friday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m.

In 4A boys basketball, Dorman defeated Lancaster 81-62, Gaffney edged Irmo 59-58, Lexington eliminated White Knoll 56-43, and Aiken defeated Wando 50-40.
