Warriors Fall to Eagles, Battle Bobcats Into Overtime

The Dillon Christian School Warriors fell to Florence Christian 67-79 on Thursday before battling the Carolina Academy Bobcats to an 57-64 overtime loss on Friday.

On Thursday, Florence Christian outscored Dillon 19-16 and 26-16 to lead 45-32 at the half. Both teams added 16 points in the third, and the Warriors added 19 to the Eagles’ 18 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap as the Eagles claimed the 79-67 win.

Kin Melvin led the Warriors with a game-high 23 points and Tyler Davis added 21. Will Brown earned nine, Jeremiah Cribb added six, and Landry Collins and Neil Melvin each contributed four points.

Florence Christian had a more balanced attack as Micah Gold led with 17 points, followed by Allen Parnell with 15, Trae Livingston with 14, Luke Sterling with 13, and Michael Yokim with 10. Gordon Washington added four points, Romel Hatcher added three, and Austin Johnson earned two, with Edoardo Cogliati getting one point in the win.

On Friday, the Warriors hosted the Bobcats and battled them into overtime. The Warriors got off to a 13-11 lead at the end of the first with each team adding seven points in the second. Carolina Academy added 20 points to the Warriors’ 13 in the third to take the lead 38-33.

In the fourth quarter, the Warriors rallied behind Kin Melvin on a drive that would put the game into overtime. On Dillon’s last possession in the fourth quarter, Kin Melvin was fouled shooting a three pointer and missed the second and third attempts, but Tyler Davis put back the rebound with five seconds left to give the Warriors 18 points in the fourth to the Bobcats’ 13, sending the game to overtime at 51-51. Carolina Academy would capitalize on fouls from DCS, as the Warriors finished the game with just four players for the second night in a row. The Bobcats outscored the Warriors 13-6 to seal the 64-57 victory.

Utilizing the size advantage of Davis and Melvin, the Warriors dominated inside play and finished with a team total of 41 rebounds (16 offensive), 20 assists, and six blocks.

Davis led the Warriors with 26 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Kin Melvin earned 10 points with four assists, and Neil Melvin added eight points with 16 rebounds and four assists. Jeremiah Cribb also added eight points, and Will Brown earned five points with six assists. Landry Collins grabbed two rebounds and Dorrian Sellers picked up three for the Warriors.

Ken Parker led Carolina Academy with a game-high 27 points, with Garrett Weaver and Brandon Morris each adding 11. Dylan Moore scored seven points, Stephen Lee added six, and Grayson McClam earned two. The team had a total of nine three-pointers, with Parker getting seven.

The Warriors are now 3-9 overall and 2-3 in SCISA Region 4-AA.

Dillon Christian was scheduled to host Lake View last night and will host Trinity Collegiate tonight with junior varsity action beginning at 4:00 p.m. On Friday, the Warriors will travel to face Pee Dee Academy in one of their biggest games of the season.
