Dillon Christian Warriors Fall 56-50 to Robert E. Lee Cavaliers

The Dillon Christian School Warriors fell to Robert E. Lee Academy by just six points on Tuesday.

The Warriors opened the game just two points behind as the Robert E. Lee Cavaliers outscored DCS 12-10 in the first, then widened the gap as they went 17-11 in the second for a 29-21 lead at the half. The Warriors rallied in the third to outscore Lee 20-9, including a three pointer at the buzzer from Landry Collins, to carry a 41-38 lead into the fourth. But the Cavaliers regained the upper hand as they outscored the Warriors 18-9, hitting four three-pointers in the fourth to claim the win.

Jesse Kistner led the Cavaliers with a team-high 17 points, with Bay Bay Tolson adding 11 and Zach Grantham and Payton Bramlett adding 10 points each. Dylan Tidwell and Zach Gooding each contributed four points to the win.
Dillon Christian’s Kin Melvin scored a game-high 22 points for the Warriors and made eight rebounds. Neil Melvin earned eight points and made 14 rebounds with four assists.

Tyler Davis, Jeremiah Cribb, and Will Brown each contributed five points for the Warriors, with Brown also making five steals. Landry Collins scored three points for DCS, and Dorrian Sellers earned two.

“Both teams showed the long layoff from the holiday break,” said Head Basketball Coach Brian Fitzgerald, “but REL hit some big shots in the fourth quarter to win.

“DCS played man pressure for most of the first half, but REL kept getting open looks, so DCS switched to a zone at the break. The team still finished with 14 steals.”

Dillon Christian’s record is now 3-7 as they head into tonight’s game against Florence Christian. On Friday, the Warriors will host Carolina Academy for their next region matchup. The Warriors are currently 2-2 in region play. The action begins with junior varsity play at 4:00 p.m. with varsity action set to begin at 6. Make plans to attend to support our local team!
