Kwinton Smith Commits to Play USC Football in 2012

On Wednesday, July 6, Dillon’s Kwinton Smith verbally committed to play football for the University of South Carolina in 2012. The senior wide-receiver is the 11th player to verbally commit for the 2012 class, and the first receiver to commit.

Smith committed on an unofficial visit to Columbia where he met with coach Steve Spurrier, Jr.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Smith finished his junior season with 42 catches, 809 yards, and 15 touchdowns.

In addition to USC, Smith received offers from Florida, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Notre Dame, Tennessee, East Carolina, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina State, and Wake Forest.

Smith told ESPN.com that his decision to commit to USC was based partially on his relationship with their coaches. He also noted that USC would allow him to remain close to his family and his home state.

Smith has also spoken with USC head coach Ray Tanner and assistant head coach Chad Holbrook about the possibility of playing baseball at USC as well. Smith has been a standout for the Wildcats as a centerfielder and pitcher.

So far in his career as a Wildcat, Smith has earned the Jordan Lyles Three Sport Athlete Award, was named All Region, All State, and HSSR All-State in football and baseball.

Smith said he’s looking forward to playing for Spurrier, and hopes to help bring a national championship to South Carolina.
