Event Honors Robin Thompson

By Marcia Chandler
Members of Main Street United Methodist Church and other Dillon and out-of-town people met at the Dillon Wellness Center at 6 P.M. on Sunday, June 26 to honor Robin Thompson who was celebrating his twentieth year as Minister of Music at the Church.
More than one hundred people attended the occasion. Pastor Mike Rouse gave the invocation.
Everyone enjoyed a wonderful array of delicious sweets, dips, fruit, sandwiches and boiled shrimp prepared by church members. The guests “grazed” the yummy culinary offerings, accompanied by refreshing lemonade punch.
A most entertaining hour followed when several speakers spoke in honor of Robin. Pastor Mike Rouse was first, and his tribute to Robin was humorous and sincere. Robin’s brother, Shaw, was next and he regaled the audience with a loving and humorous talk. Mrs. Betty Wallace contributed a clever tribute to Robin.
Former pastor Mickey Bell (from Columbia) offered some interesting and funny information about Robin’s earlier days at the church.
Bobby Horton had the audience responding with laughter to his humorous talk. John Braddy recalled Robin’s earlier (and present) days as choir director with some funny anecdotes.
Doug Newton commented from the audience. Dan Bozard talked about Robin’s work at the church.
Concluding the entertainment, Dan presented Robin with a plaque from our church in appreciation of Robin’s work as our Minister of Music.
Robin graciously thanked everyone and expressed his appreciation for the support of the members and the choir. He expressed his pleasure in his work at Main Street and said that he hoped that our association would last for a very long time.
