Carolyn Grantham Utley, 75, died Friday, July 1, 2011 at Mullins Nursing Center. She was born in Dillon County, a daughter of the late Bishop and Sarah Pope Lewis Grantham. Carolyn, who was fondly known as “Granny” by her many friends, was a nurse for over fifty years, many of which were at Marion Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong member of Lake View United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ben Utley; two brothers, Bobby Grantham and Gary Grantham, and one sister, Evelyn Proctor.
Surviving Mrs. Utley are one son, Benny Utley of Marion and his fiancee, Erika Mizell and one daughter, Shaun Utley and her fiancé, Chris Ellis of Lake View; one sister, Margaret Small of Georgia and two grandchildren, Hunter Owens and Caine Ellis.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Meares Funeral Home of Mullins. A service of celebration will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 in the chapel of Meares Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Lake View United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 277, Lake View, S.C. 29563.
