Local Players Named HSSR All-State

The High School Sports Report has named its Spring All-State teams with several Dillon players making the cut.

In addition to the All-State teams, two players received superlatives. Dillon’s Kwinton Smith received the Jordan Lyles Three Sport Athlete Award, and Lake View’s Avonlea Cooke was Co-Class A Player of the Year with Abbeville’s Gennifer Durham.

The HSSR All-State Baseball Team includes Lake View’s Chris Ford, Zack Allen, and Jordan Miller, as well as Dillon’s Jamie Callahan, Kwinton Smith, and Daniel Huggins.

Lake View’s Hunter Walters was named to the HSSR All-Rookie Baseball Team.

The HSSR All-State Softball team included players from all three public schools. Shaquailla German, Tara Grimsley, and Rebecca Callahan were chosen from Dillon’s Lady Wildcats. Chessie Miller, Kayla Sanderson, and Brittany Floyd were selected from Lake View. Latta’s Charise Braddy, Dallas Sweat, Raven Baxley, and Chelsea Welty will represent the Lady Vikings.

Players from all three schools were also named to the All-Rookie Team, which included Lake View’s Morgan Herlong, Latta’s Chelsea Welty, and Dillon’s Shayna Covington.

Dillon Christian School’s Katelyn Williams and Reagan Massengale were named to the HSSR SCISA All-State Softball Team, and Dillon Christian’s Townsend Hamilton was named to the HSSR SCISA All-State Boy’s Golf Team.

Dillon’s T.J. Grimsley was named to the HSSR 2011 SCHSL Boys All-State Soccer Team.

Nominations were decided by a ballot that was mailed to every school in South Carolina, with 75 percent of the schools responding. The annual banquet is scheduled to be held at Seawells Restaurant in Columbia on Sunday, June 5.
