Highway Patrol Alert: Pedestrian Deaths Are Rising

Most people are pedestrians at some point each day. Few realize how risky that can be — Pedestrian crashes occur most often during morning and afternoon peak travel times. Most pedestrian fatalities occur at night.

• Pedestrians are at fault about 63 percent of the time;
• Primary causes: illegally in the roadway and improper crossing.
Stay Safe:
• Pedestrians must walk on the shoulder of the Highway.
• Wear light and reflective material if you are a pedestrian at night.
• Never walk beside the roadway after consuming alcohol
• Walk on the left shoulder, facing traffic closest to you
• DO NOT WALK IN THE ROADWAY
