Lake View Wild Gators Overcome Flashes 8-7 in Extra Innings

Lake View’s Wild Gators took the Johnsonville Flashes into extra innings Tuesday before claiming an 8-7 win over one of their biggest rivals.

The Flashes scored two runs in the first inning to put them ahead for the first half of the game. Lake View got one run in the second, but the Flashes were up 7-1 by the sixth inning. Five runs from Lake View in the bottom of the sixth put them within reach of the Flashes, and one run in the seventh tied things up and sent the game into an eighth inning. Pitcher Hunter Walters held off the Flashes and when Lake View took the field, a sacrifice fly from Chris Ford scored David Townsend for the win.

Walters was the winning pitcher, though he pitched only one and two-thirds innings. He gave up only one hit and struck out four. Also pitching for the Gators, Jordan Miller went four innings, allowing six hits, six runs, two earned runs, and one walk, striking out four. John Michael Brown pitched one inning, giving up two hits and one run, and Shawn Lewis pitched one inning, giving up two hits and striking out one. Zack Allen pitched one-third of an inning and walked two.

Wes McCutcheon was the losing pitcher, pitching seven and one-third innings and allowing eight hits, four earned runs, and two walks, and striking out four.

Lake View’s leading hitters were Chris Ford, 2-for-4 with one RBI; Jordan Miller, 2-for-4; and David Townsend, 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Cody Cox went 1-for-4 with one RBI, Zack Allen went 1-for-3, and Steele Spivey got two RBIs.

Batters for the Flashes included Adam Venters, 2-for-4; A. Williams, and 2-for-4 with an RBI; Z. Phillips, 2-for-5. A. Powell went 1-for-5 with 2 RBIs, L. Powell went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and T. Powell went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Wes McCutcheon and C. Lee both went 1-for-5.

THE DILLON HERALD previously reported that the Gators had defeated Green Sea-Floyds 4-1 on Friday, March 11.

In that win, Hunter Walters pitched all seven innings, allowing only four hits, one run, and one earned run. He struck out 11 GSF Trojans. The losing pitcher was C. Caines who also pitched all seven innings, giving up six hits, four runs, two earned runs, and three walks. He struck out three Gators.

Lake View scored all their runs in the first two innings, with Chris Ford, Jordan Miller, Zack Allen and A.J. Hyatt all scoring runs. Ford went 1-for-4 and Miller went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Hunter Walters went 2-for-3 with one RBI, Cody Cox got an RBI, and David Townsend and Steele Spivey each went 1-for-3.

C. Hardwick scored the Trojans only run and went 1-for-3. C. Caines and A. Wisnowski each went 1-for-3, and J. Caines went 1-for-2.

With the wins, Lake View improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 8A, while Johnsonville’s region record falls to 2-1. Lake View is next scheduled to host Carvers Bay on Friday at 5:30 p.m. On Tuesday, March 22, they’ll host a double-header against Creek Bridge beginning at 5:30.
