Wild Gators Take Down Hemingway Tigers 18-2

The Lake View Wild Gators defeated the Hemingway Tigers 18-2 on Tuesday, March 8, in their first game of the regular season.

The Gators made eight runs in the first of five innings to give them the lead for the entire game. They added three more points in the second and two in the third, and five more in the fourth.

The winning pitcher was Lake View’s Shawn Lewis with four innings pitched. He gave up only four hits and two runs and struck out seven Tigers. David Townsend also pitched one inning for Lake View, striking out two and giving up no hits or runs.

Pitching for Hemingway were R. Hayward and G. Eaddy. Each pitched two innings, with Hayward giving up 11 runs, four hits, five walks, and two unearned runs. He struck out only two Gators. Eaddy gave up seven runs, six hits, and six unearned runs, and struck out three.

Lake View’s lead batters were Cody Cox, 2-for-3 with three RBIs; Chris Ford, 2-for-3 with two RBIs; Eric Munoz, 1-for-1 with two RBIs; Zack Allen, 1-for-2 with one RBI; Steele Spivey, 1-for-2 with one RBI; Nate Lewis, 1-for-2 with an RBI; A.J. Hyatt, 1-for-2; Jordan Miller 1-for-4; and David Townsend, 0-3 with one RBI on an error.

Hemingway’s lead batters were J. Heyward, 1-for-2; R. Hayward, 1-for-2; L. Dollard, 1-for-1; and S. Booker, 1-for-2.

Including preseason games, Lake View’s overall record is now 4-1. The win over Hemingway gives them a 1-0 record in Region 8A.

The Gators were scheduled to travel to Green Sea-Floyds on Friday, March 11, and will be back at home on Tuesday, March 15 to host Johnsonville at 5:30 p.m. Be sure to come out to support our local team!
