Vikings Go 2-0 in Preseason Baseball

The Latta Vikings baseball team won both of their first two games of the season, defeating Green Sea-Floyds on Monday and Creek Bridge on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Vikings were trailing 6-4 after two innings, but seven runs in the final five put them ahead for an 11-7 win.

The winning pitcher was Kyle Arrington. Arrington pitched three innings, giving up four hits and one run and making four strikeouts. He also had two walks. The losing pitcher was Austin Faulk who pitched three and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs (five earned), eight hits, and two walks. He managed four strikeouts.

Latta’s leading hitters were Josh Bowen, Brandon Lane, and Donnell Stanley. Bowen had three hits, made two runs and had two RBIs. Lane had two hits and two RBIs, and Stanley went 2-5 and had one RBI.

On Tuesday, freshman Jeremy Jenkins threw his first no-hitter as Latta overpowered Creek Bridge 12-0 in the Latta/Marlboro preseason tournament.

The winning pitcher was Jeremy Jenkins with five innings pitched, 11 strikeouts, and two walks. The losing pitcher, Javon Evans, pitched four innings, had 13 hits, eight earned runs, three walks, and two strikeouts.

Leading hitters for Latta were Donell Stanley and River Owens with two hits each. Owens had two RBIs and Stanley had one.

The wins give the Vikings a 2-0 record so far this season. They were next scheduled to host Lake View’s Wild Gators last night at 5:30 p.m.
