Vernon Lane

Services for Vernon Lane will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at East Dillon Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery with full military honors.  Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home.
     Mr. Lane, 81, died Monday, November 1, 2010 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
     Born in Dillon County, August 25, 1929, he was the son of the late James Blanton Lane and Mamie Johnson Lane.  He was a member of East Dillon Baptist Church, and was a retired U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II, and three tours in Vietnam.  He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Euporean Occupation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with the First Oakleaf Cluster, and the Vietnam Service Medal with the Four Bronze Star.
     Survivors include his wife, Margaret W. Lane of Dillon; children, Gina Flynt of Seattle, WA, Sammy Lane, and Henrietta Staver, both of Fayetteville, NC, Susan Perez of Aberdeen, NC, Marie Martinez of Carey, NC, Lt. Colonel Janet Allen of Miami, FL, Linda Lane of Henderson, Nevada, Debra H. Johnson of Dillon, and Jennifer H. Stockton of Myrtle Beach; brother, Arthur Lane of Barefoot Bay, FL; sisters, Jessica Fox of Ormond Beach, FL, Grace Andrews of Jackson Springs, NC, Carol Sinclair of Theodore, AL, and Johnnie Moody of Dillon; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
     Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline Lane; brother, James Lane; and his sister, Mildred McGrady.
