Dillon Currently Undefeated in Dixie Youth Major League Tournament
The Dillon Kiwanis All Stars are undefeated going into tonight’s game against Surfside in the Dixie Youth Major League State Tournament.
The tournament began Friday in Clemson, with twelve teams battling for the state title. The tournament is double-elimination, meaning that a team is not eliminated until they have lost twice. Even so, three teams went home last night and three more will be eliminated tonight.
So far Dillon has won both of their first round games, defeating Parks Field on Saturday and Gregg Park on Sunday. Coverage of both games can be found in Tuesday’s edition of THE DILLON HERALD.
“They’re playing hard, and we are very proud of them,” Coach James Lockemy said of the Dillon team. He noted that the team also had a lot of hometown support at the tournament, more so than many of their competitors.
Tonight at 7:30 p.m. Dillon faces Surfside, one of two other teams that are also undefeated in the tournament. Surfside trounced host team Clemson 15-5 on Saturday, then eliminated Honea Path on Sunday.
Their success isn’t all that surprising: Surfside took home the State Championship last season before going on to conquer the Dixie Youth World Series.
No matter the outcome of tonight’s game, both teams will stay in the tournament for at least one more day, and will likely face Union, the only other undefeated team remaining, if they hope to take the title.
