Well, it is now certain, Geraldine and I will not make the Mustang Week Car Show at Myrtle Beach, SC tomorrow morning. For the second straight year my ‘69 Mustang developed a mechanical issue the week before the event. It’s hard for some to understand the thrill of it all but once you’ve come in contact with Mustang Fever there’s just no getting over it. It all began in 1961 when Ford’s Lee Iacocca had a new idea. He wanted to develop a car that would carry four people, have bucket seats, a shifter in the floor, look great, and sell for less than $2,500.00. With the idea turned into reality the first Ford Mustang rolled off of the assembly line on March 9th, 1964 only eighteen months after the approval for production. After a massive amount of television commercials corralled the public‘s attention, Ford sold over 22,000 Mustangs the very first day. By years end and amazing 126,538 had been sold during this abbreviated year. (97,705 coupes / 28,833 convertibles.) There are 52-weeks in the year and fate has found me hitched tied for two years in a row on the same week. Nonetheless, I imagine that they will still be making Mustangs next year and there will be even more for me to view and salivate over at yet another stable. For if the good lord made anything any prettier than a good-looking woman or Classic Mustang, I do not know what it is… Happy trails.
